Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend

Ryan BaileyAug 23, 2015

Once again, ranking the top 10 goals of the weekend was made difficult by the wealth of choice and the outstanding efforts vying for the No. 1 spot.

Honourable mentions for our latest ranking—which is unusual for its lack of contributions from the Premier League—go to Hakan Calhanoglu for adding yet another great free kick to his highlight reel, the fantastic dead balls scored by Sebestian Giovinco in MLS and James Tavernier in Scotland, and Stevan Jovetic for his wonderful first goal for Internazionale.

Now, let's get on with the show...

10. Edwin Cardona (Monterrey) vs. Santos Laguna

1 of 10

Monterrey were denied three points in their Liga MX tie with Santos Laguna on Saturday when the visitors bagged a late winner.

It cancelled out a glorious long-range opener from Edwin Cardona, which the goalkeeper could only stand and watch as it hurtled into the net.

9. Erkan Zengin (Trabzonspor) vs. Besiktas

2 of 10

Trabzonspor maintained their 100 per cent record in the Turkish Super Lig with a 2-1 win at Besiktas on Saturday.

In the 85th minute, Erkan Zengin scored the winner with a 20-yard net-buster.

This goal, however, wasn't the best of the game, as you shall see later in this ranking...

8. Marcin Budzinski (Cracovia Krakow) vs Jagiellonia Bialysto

3 of 10

Cracovia drew 1-1 with Jagiellonia in the Polish Ekstraklasa on Saturday thanks to a brilliant long-range strike from Marcin Budzinski.

The 25-year-old couldn't have hit it much sweeter than that.

7. Hatem Ben Arfa (Nice) vs. Caen

4 of 10

Fans at the beautiful Allianz Riviera stadium were treated to three goals in nine minutes as Nice defeated Caen 2-1 on Saturday.

After receiving the ball on the left wing, former Newcastle United man Hatem Ben Arfa opened the scoring for the hosts with a dazzling solo run and fantastic finish from an acute angle.

6. Lucas Ocampos (OM) vs. Troyes

5 of 10

Marseille stormed to a 6-0 win over Troyes on Sunday, in a game that featured several excellent goals.

Lassana Diarra's long-range effort was worthy of note, but Lucas Ocampos scored the pick of the litter with a wonderful overhead kick to make it 4-0 to OM.

The Argentinean midfielder, however, wasn't the only one to slot in an excellent overhead kick over the weekend...

5. Morten Nordstrand (AGF) vs. Kobenhavn

6 of 10

There are few better ways to score a last-gasp equaliser than this.

In the 89th minute of AGF's Danish Superliga visit to Kobenhavn on Sunday, Morten Nordstrand earned a point for the visitors with a beautiful overhead kick

It was similar in execution to Ocampos' strike but wins extra points for its importance and timing.

Clearly, Nordstrand has form for this kind of goal.

4. Glenn Rule (Stockport County) vs. Nuneaton Town

7 of 10

Non-league stunner alert!

Glenn Rule earned a point for Stockport Town on Saturday during their National League North (sixth tier) tie at Nuneaton Town with a bobby-dazzler of a volley.

The skill of the strike almost makes up for the fluorescent pink kit. Almost.

3. Luke Leahy (Falkirk) vs. Livingstone

8 of 10

Livingston succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Falkirk on Saturday, thanks in part to a moment of magic from Luke Leahy.

In the 16th minute, the 22-year-old full-back volleyed in a finish that Marco van Basten would be proud of. It's a certain early contender for the Scottish Championship's goal of the season.

2. Ricardo Quaresma (Besiktas) vs. Trabzonspor

9 of 10

In the early years of his career, Ricardo Quaresma was thought to be on a similar path to Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese star showed a glimpse of his raw talent with a ridiculous equalising goal for his new club Besiktas in their aforementioned clash with Trabzonspor.

Did he mean it? Who knows. Regardless, it was an incredibly taken strike.

Bizarrely, Quaresma was sent off a few minutes later when he received a second booking for taking a free kick too quickly!

1. Marco Matias (Sheffield Wednesday) vs. Leeds United

10 of 10

On most weekends, Quaresma's goal would have taken top spot. However, he has been usurped by something very special from another Portuguese forward.

Marco Matias opened the scoring for Sheffield Wednesday during their visit to Elland Road on Saturday with a career-defining volley, which the 26-year-old teed up by chipping the ball over a bamboozled defender.

Euro 96 Paul Gascoigne would be proud!
