College Football Playoffs 2026-27 Bracket Elimination Scenarios in Week 10 After Poll
The first 2026-27 College Football Playoff rankings were unveiled on Tuesday night.
Miami sitting in the No. 1 spot doesn't come as a major surprise, as the Hurricanes boast a perfect 8-0 record and also held the top position in the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll.
No. 2 Georgia and No. 3 Utah also sat in the same spot in the CFP rankings compared to the Week 9 AP Top 25 poll, although No. 4 Indiana and No. 5 Alabama both rose in the CFP picture.
With the 12-team playoff format entering its third year, plenty of schools remain hopeful of contending for a CFP berth heading into Week 10.
Still, there are several key matchups that could drastically affect teams looking to avoid being eliminated from the postseason bracket.
No. 9 BYU travels to face Utah on Saturday, representing a clash between the top two teams in the Big 12 standings. The Cougars opened this season with a 6-0 record, but suffered a shocking defeat against UCF on Oct. 24.
While they bounced back with a 27-20 victory over Arizona State on Saturday, a loss to Utah would drop them to 7-2 with a 4-2 mark in the Big 12.
If the Utes can pull out a win and improve to 9-0, they'd gain even more control over the rest of the conference while BYU could begin shifting its focus towards contending for one of the at-large playoff bids.
In the SEC, No. 14 LSU hosts Alabama at Tiger Stadium on Saturday.
The Tigers and Crimson Tide both sit at 6-2, with all four combined losses coming against conference opponents. A third loss with three games left in the regular season would shrink the margin of error for either school, if not end their hopes of clinching a CFP berth entirely.
Another SEC school trying to avoid suffering a third conference defeat of the year is Ole Miss, as the No. 10 Rebels are set to face off against Georgia on Saturday night.
Ole Miss advanced to the CFP semifinals last season, but a loss to the Bulldogs would seriously hurt its hopes of making consecutive playoff appearances. It doesn't help that Rebels standout running back Kewan Lacy's outlook heading into the contest is uncertain due to a shoulder injury.
While Georgia doesn't have as much to lose, head coach Kirby Smart's squad would remain squarely in the conversation for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with a victory.
