Dabo Swinney Calls Out Plane Banner Calling for Mike Norvell's Firing After Clemson Beats FSU

Timothy RappNov 1, 2026

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney had plenty to say about the plane banner that called for Mike Norvell to be fired and flew above Doak Campbell Stadium before the Tigers' 36-24 win over Florida State on Saturday.

"That was embarrassing. Florida State's better than that," Swinney told reporters after the game. "That's not good for these kids. They didn't even spell his name right. It's disrespectful. Mike Norvell is a good man. He ain't gonna say it, but I'm gonna. Whoever did that, you ought to be ashamed of yourself. Ain't nobody trying to lose. This job is hard. I don't know why we think because people make money you have the right to destroy people as humans. I don't know where we became this as a society where it's OK to tear people down. It's like a blood sport now. You lose a game, fire everybody, everybody stinks. It's shameful to me."

Frustrations are high at Florida State, with the 3-5 Seminoles in danger of posting a third straight losing season under Norvell (and a fifth losing season in his seven years leading the program).

But Swinney feels the embattled head coach has earned more respect than he was afforded on Saturday.
