Plane Banner Calling for Mike Norvell's Firing Seen in Video, Photo Ahead of FSU vs. Clemson
Florida State fans are fed up with head coach Mike Norvell.
As the Seminoles (3-4) endure another difficult season, one fan took to the skies to call for Norvell's firing ahead of Saturday's matchup against Clemson:
Norvell, 45, had a brutal opening to his tenure at the school, going 3-6 in 2020 and 5-7 in 2021. He alleviated a lot of concerns in the two seasons that followed, posting a 10-3 mark in 2022 and a 13-1 mark—and controversial snub from the College Football Playoff—in 2023.
But angst has returned to Tallahassee. Since a 63-3 embarrassment against Georgia in the 2023 season's Orange Bowl, the Seminoles are just 10-21. For a program that was a national power under Bobby Bowden and during parts of the Jimbo Fisher years, that run of mediocrity is unacceptable.
There have already been indications that changes are coming. In September, former athletic director Michael Alford was fired. And FSU president Richard McCullough made it clear in a letter to fans this past week that he understands patience is running thin:
Norvell also made a number of changes in the offseason, with ESPN's Andrea Adelson noting in September that he "hired a general manager, remade his personnel department and got a football budget that is estimated to rank in the Top 20 nationally—well above what Florida State had spent the previous year."
Thus far, those changes have not translated to the sort of success that is expected at Florida State. If the Seminoles don't start stacking wins, the creator of Saturday's banner may get their wish.
