Jeremiah Smith is 'Biggest Cheat Code in Football' After Making OSU History, Says NFL Draft Expert

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith "is the biggest cheat code in the sport" in the view of The Athletic's Dane Brugler.

Brugler offered the remark within the context of the 2027 NFL draft assessment for Buckeyes quarterback Julian Sayin. Evaluating Sayin is a little trickier because having a target as dynamic as Smith can make him look like a better passer than he is.

Nick Baumgardner of The Athletic went on to say "it's fair to put Smith on the Calvin Johnson/Julio Jones dance floor among the best college receiver prospects we've seen this century."

Smith is leading the FBS in the three major receiving categories. He has 44 receptions for 823 yards and nine touchdowns.

The junior is also Ohio State's all-time leader in all three stats, putting him above the likes of Michael Jenkins, David Boston, Emeka Egbuka, Chris Olave and Marvin Harrison Jr.

At the current pace, the question isn't if Smith is the best player in the 2027 class but rather whether the team with the No. 1 pick values the quarterback position enough to bypass him.

Smith is the top-ranked star on the Bleacher Report big board with a 9.8 overall grade, and he went first to the Miami Dolphins in the B/R mock.

Harrison's struggles in the pros could give some talent evaluators pause on Smith. He was seemingly another can't-miss prospect who had the added benefit of having a Hall of Fame receiver for a dad.

But Smith is surpassing Harrison's collegiate achievements, and the highlights speak for themselves. Barring an unforeseen setback, he'll anchor an NFL passing game for a long time to come.

In time, Smith might be talked about in the same way fans reminisce about Johnson or Randy Moss' college days.
