Deion Sanders, Colorado Reportedly Expected to Bench Julian Lewis, Make QB Change

Colorado might be eyeing a quarterback change.

According to Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, the Buffs are "currently expected" to bench Julian Lewis and promote Isaac Wilson to starter.

Head coach Deion Sanders was coy on the matter, however, saying he hasn't decided on a starter this week.

In eight career games over the past two seasons, Lewis, a former 4-star recruit, has thrown for 1,322 yards, 10 touchdowns and two interceptions, completing 59.8 percent of his passes while taking 20 sacks. But Colorado is just 3-5 in his starts over the past two years, including 2-2 this season.

Against Baylor on Saturday, he finished 11-of-16 for just 76 yards while taking three sacks in a 23-13 loss. He was benched at halftime in favor of Wilson, who finished 12-of-25 passes for 156 yards and a score.

"We ran the ball well in the first half—that's about it," Sanders told reporters regarding the quarterback switch. "I'll take the responsibility for the decision that I made because I was trying to get us going."

Sanders seems more than comfortable turning to Wilson—or even third-stringer Kaneal Sweetwyne—if necessary.

"Isaac had a great spring. I don't know if you guys remember that," he told reporters Tuesday. "If he gets the nod, I feel all out that he's going to do his thing. Sweetwyne, as well... I love what he brings to the table."
