Joe Burrow Explains Why Lane Kiffin is 'Good for LSU' in New Video, 'You Need Somebody Like That'

Lane Kiffin's LSU tenure is off to an uneven start following Saturday's loss to Ole Miss, but one famous former Tigers quarterback believes in the head coach over the long term.

"I think Lane Kiffin is good for LSU," Joe Burrow said during an interview with Julian Edelman on The Gronk & Jules Show (13:25 mark). "I think you need somebody like that for LSU. You need somebody that doesn't care what people think. You know, he's gonna do what he thinks is best, and I think guys gravitate towards that. 

"And in Louisiana, you kind of have to have a little chip on your shoulder like that. ... The Coach O mentality, the Lane Kiffin mentality, I think bringing that is something that I think Louisiana needs. I think in the long run that will be successful."

Kiffin's return to Ole Miss was one of the most anticipated early regular-season games in recent college football memory. After all, he coached the Rebels to the College Football Playoff last season but left to take the LSU job in a highly scrutinized move before the postseason started.

In front of a raucous atmosphere, the Rebels defeated Kiffin's Tigers 32-24 behind individual brilliance from quarterback Trinidad Chambliss.

It was the type of individual quarterback brilliance LSU fans grew accustomed to when Burrow was under center during the program's run to the national championship in the 2019 season. He took home the Heisman Trophy while throwing to the likes of Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson and then became the No. 1 pick of the 2020 NFL draft.

Ed Orgeron was LSU's head coach that season, and Burrow highlighted his overall mentality when talking about Kiffin.

Orgeron is back on staff with the Tigers this season as one of Kiffin's assistants, and Burrow clearly believes they can work together to bring LSU back to the level it was at when he was in college.

It may take a little time, though, if Saturday's loss was any indication.
