Colorado's Ben Finneseth Apologizes for Ripping Northwestern's Stadium in Viral Video

Colorado senior defensive back Ben Finneseth is walking back his comments from a viral video criticizing Northwestern's temporary stadium.

Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders called Finnseth up to apologize during a Tuesday press conference.

"It was childish. It was a stupid thing that I said. It won't happen again... It will be much more mature moving forward," Finnseth said.

The video initially shared by Kamran Nia appeared to show Colorado players comparing the atmosphere of the 12,000-person stadium to a library ahead of last Saturday's game against the Wildcats.

Northwestern, which is playing at a temporary location during ongoing renovations of Ryan Field, went on to claim a 41-7 win over the Buffaloes.

Colorado's offense turned over the ball four times, including on the first two interception of quarterback Julian Lewis' career, while the defense allowed Northwestern to rack up 423 total yards.

The win marked Northwestern's largest margin of victory against a power conference opponent since 2020, per ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Sanders said after Saturday's loss he "got on" some of his players for laughing after the loss.

When asked Tuesday about his players' reaction to the loss, Sanders said there were "a few guys not on the team anymore."

Saturday's win marked the end of Northwestern football's tenure at Martin Stadium, which welcomed the team for five games in the 2025 season and hosted non-conference matchups this fall against South Dakota State and Colorado.

The renovation project at Ryan Field, which has a budget of $870 million, features a capacity of 35,000 seats and a 520,000 square-foot increase over the old stadium.

Northwestern will now hit the road for a game against No. 5 Indiana this Friday before turning home for the team's debut at the new Ryan Field Oct. 2 against No. 13 Penn State.

Colorado is also scheduled for a road game this week at Baylor before returning to Folsom Field, which has a capacity of around 53,000, to play its highest-ranked opponent of the season so far in No. 11 Texas Tech.
