Sam Leavitt Injury Update, LSU QB's Status Revealed for Ole Miss' Revenge Game vs. Lane Kiffin

LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt was removed from the injury report and will start for the No. 7 Tigers during their matchup with No. 8 Ole Miss on Saturday night, per Pete Nakos of On3.com.

Leavitt was initially listed as doubtful on Wednesday's availability report before he was upgraded to questionable on Thursday.

Saturday's SEC clash will represent LSU head coach Lane Kiffin's first game against his former team, as he previously left Ole Miss to join the Tigers during the 2025 season.

Kiffin helped the Rebels open with an 11-1 record last year.

Although Ole Miss was about to make a College Football Playoff appearance, he left the school to sign a seven-year, $91 million contract with LSU before the season came to a close.

The Rebels ultimately finished at 13-2 and made a run to the CFP semifinals under Pete Golding, who was elevated from defensive coordinator to head coach as Kiffin's replacement.

Now, LSU and Ole Miss are looking to establish themselves as early SEC contenders after opening their 2026 campaigns with identical 2-0 records.

As for Leavitt, he was dealing with a sore throwing shoulder that limited him in practice. The 21-year-old is set to start under center against the Rebels, though.

In two games this season, Leavitt has completed 62.1 percent of his passes for 574 yards and two touchdowns to go along with four interceptions. He's showcased his dual-threat capabilities, picking up 135 yards on the ground.

Leavitt's five rushing touchdowns are also tied for the most among all SEC players.

Ole Miss has dealt with inconsistency on defense despite its 2-0 start, owning the second-worst pass defense in the conference by giving up 243.0 passing yards per game. It's worth noting that Rebels safety Sharif Denson will be making his season debut after missing the start of the year due to an injury, per Nakos.

Kickoff between LSU and Ole Miss on Saturday is at 7:30 p.m. ET.
