Ole Miss Issues Warning About LSU Gear in Student Section Ahead of Lane Kiffin's Return

Ole Miss is taking steps to avoid any altercations during Saturday's game against Lane Kiffin and LSU.

Insider Tyler Komis relayed a message Ole Miss sent to its students on Thursday that said, "No person wearing an opposing team's gear or colors will be allowed entrance into the student section.

"Additionally, anyone found to be wearing opposing team apparel or colors in the student section will be removed."

This comes after the Mississippi Department of Public Safety announced it will have an enhanced law enforcement presence on and around campus for Saturday's game.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry also joked about what he might need to do to protect Kiffin as the LSU head coach returns to his former school.

"I'm thinking about having to send him in on an F-16 and maybe the team on a C-130," he said, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "Security is going to be really tight. You know, we might need the National Guard out there to protect our team. I think it's going to be an interesting weekend."

For his part, Kiffin made sure his players knew all they have to worry about is playing.

"We talk about that," Kiffin said. "I guess there's real safety issues and stuff, so there's people that have a plan for that. I told the players today, 'Man, you don't have anything to worry about as far as, like, attention on you all week and everything. There's going to be so much attention, hatred, everything on me. You just get to go play.'"

It will surely be a heated environment on Saturday, as Kiffin coached the Rebels to the College Football Playoff last season.

However, he decided to take the LSU job before the CFP started in a coaching transition that generated plenty of attention. Kiffin wanted to remain at Ole Miss and coach the team during the postseason, but that ultimately didn't happen.

"Ole Miss doesn't want Kiffin around its players with the transfer portal opening on Jan. 2," ESPN's Schlabach and Pete Thamel reported at the time. "The Rebels also don't want their CFP games to be a 'commercial' for LSU's future under Kiffin."

John Talty of CBS Sports reported that some Ole Miss players even "confronted" Kiffin about attempting to take some of the assistant coaches with him to LSU, and the coach responded by saying, "I'm not making them go. They can do whatever they want."

As if all the attention on Kiffin wasn't enough, it is also a massive showdown with SEC and CFP implications.

LSU is No. 7 in the country, while Ole Miss is No. 8. Whichever team wins will have a marquee victory to add to its resume and move up in the conference rankings, which will surely only add to the overall atmosphere.
