Darian Mensah's Draft Stock 'Rising Like a Rocket,' NFL Scout Says amid Miami's 2-0 Start

Miami quarterback Darian Mensah is making a strong impression on NFL talent evaluators to start the 2026 season.

One scout told ESPN's Pete Thamel that Mensah "is rising like a rocket." Thamel added that the Hurricanes signal-caller is firmly in the Round 1 conversation for the 2027 NFL draft.

Mensah has thrown for 653 yards and eight touchdowns through Miami's first two games. He completed 41 of his 45 passes and averaged 14.5 yards per attempt.

The Hurricanes have yet to face a serious test. They opened the campaign on the road against Stanford and then hosted Florida A&M. Still, Mensah's volume and efficiency jump off the page.

The junior had already built a reputation for himself through his performance at Tulane and Duke in 2024 and 2025, respectively.

Mensah is the first quarterback off the board and No. 2 overall pick in Bleacher Report's mock draft.

"Mensah plays with immense poise and calmness in the pocket and during big games," the B/R Scouting Department said. "His ability to raise his level of play despite lacking premium talent at both Tulane and Duke displays his level of impact. Mensah plays with sound and clean mechanics, as well as the keen ability to layer passes down the field to his receiver in stride thanks to excellent ball placement."

There's going to be some serious competition in the upcoming QB class, a contrast from how Indiana's Fernando Mendoza was head and shoulders above the field in 2026. Oregon's Dante Moore could've been a first-rounder this past spring, and Arch Manning stabilized his stock with Texas' comeback against Ohio State in Week 2.

For right now, though, nobody has a lock on the top spot at the position. Much like Cam Ward in 2024, Mensah could claim that title if he continues his blistering start once the schedule gets tougher.
