Oklahoma State Faces Possible $50K Fine from Big 12 for Fans Storming Field After Upset vs. Oregon

Saturday's stunning 39-31 victory over Oregon was a memorable one for the Oklahoma State football program.

But it may be a costly one as well.

As Front Office Sports noted, Oklahoma State could be facing a $50,000 fine from the Big 12 because its fans stormed the field after the win over the Ducks. They didn't just storm the field, as they tore down the goalpost and carried it all the way to Theta Pond:

According to Kevin Skiver of USA Today, the Big 12's standard fine for field storming is $50,000.

However, he pointed out the conference "has been fairly inconsistent" in its enforcement of such a rule, fining Arizona State last year but then rescinding its fine of Colorado. 

"There seems to be a case-by-case nature to the conference's application of the rule, specifically around whether teams follow safety procedures before storming the field," Skiver explained.

Whether the school ends up getting fined or not, Oklahoma State fans celebrating in such a fashion was anything but surprising.

After all, the Ducks arrived as presumed national title contenders with an NFL prospect quarterback in Dante Moore leading the way. Oregon also won last year's matchup 69-3, which was the first of 11 straight losses for the Cowboys.

Mike Gundy's tenure ended during that losing streak, but any high hopes under Eric Morris for the 2026 season ran into an immediate road block when the Cowboys lost by 14 points to Tulsa in the season opener.

Yet somehow they were able to turn things around against one of the most talented rosters in the country, and the eight-point margin of victory doesn't fully capture just how dominant they were in the win.

Oklahoma State outgained Oregon 554-281 in total yardage and had 25 first downs to the visitors' 12. A 96-yard pick six for the Ducks was one of the major mistakes from the home team that kept it closer than those stats indicate, but the Cowboys took the lead for good in the fourth quarter when quarterback Drew Mestemaker soared over multiple defenders for a touchdown.

It was a play that will be remembered for years to come at Oklahoma State and one that set off quite the celebration.
