Jeremiah Smith Makes Ohio State History as Heisman Trophy Hype Continues to Stir

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith has officially cemented himself atop the Buckeyes' all-time receiving list.

With a 23-yard catch in the first quarter Saturday against Kent State, Smith set Ohio State's new all-time receiving record, surpassing Michael Jenkins' previous mark of 2,898 yards.

One of a handful of top Heisman Trophy contenders, Smith entered Saturday's game second behind Miami quarterback Darian Mensah with +750 odds to take home college football's most prestigious hardware, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

Smith has been the centerpiece of Ohio State's passing attack throughout his tenure at the school.

During his freshman season in 2024, he caught 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns while helping the Buckeyes capture a national championship.

Last year, Smith led the Big Ten with 87 receptions and 1,243 yards. He also found the end zone 12 times.

Smith's 2,558 receiving yards and 27 touchdown grabs from 2024 to 2025 were the most by any Big Ten receiver throughout their first two years in college.

He still hasn't shown any signs of slowing down to open the 2026 season.
