Everything Dan Lanning Said About No. 6 Oregon's Historic Upset Loss to Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State became the first team in college football history with an active losing streak of 10 or more games to beat a Top 10 team on Saturday when it took down the No. 6 Oregon Ducks, 39-31.
Oregon head coach Dan Lanning addressed reporters after the loss, noting the Ducks "got our ass kicked" in several phases of the game.

As Lanning noted, the scoreboard doesn't tell the whole story. Oklahoma State outgained Oregon 554-281, including a 237-90 rushing advantage. Two Cowboys (running back Caleb Hawkins and quarterback Drew Mestemaker) had 110 and 109 rushing yards, respectively. The team ran for 5.9 yards per carry.
Cowboys quarterback Drew Mestemaker thrashed the Ducks through the air, connecting on 26-of-43 passes for 317 yards and two touchdowns (two interceptions). Wideout Wyatt Young led the way for the pass-catchers with five receptions for 121 yards and a score.
The Cowboys also had 25 first downs to Oregon's 12 and possessed the ball for nearly 37 minutes.
Oregon opened the year with a 34-27 win over Boise State, which entered the game as a 24.5-point underdog, per FanDuel Sportsbook. The game was tied at 27 in the fourth before Dakorien Moore scored a 62-yard TD for the game-winner.
After the contest, Lanning told CBS Sports' Jenny Dell that the Ducks had a lot to address.
The offense fared well in Week 1 (quarterback Dante Moore threw for 378 yards and three scores) but took a big step back in Week 2, when Oregon was a 23.5-point favorite, per FanDuel Sportsbook.
Moore completed less than half of his passes (14-of-29) for 191 yards (6.6 yards per attempt). The running game didn't get going, and the team on the whole had 90 yards on 30 carries.
Overall, it's a troubling loss for Oregon, which was playing a rebuilding Oklahoma State program that just lost its opener 24-10 to Tulsa, which could very well have a good season but currently sits No. 78 in the latest Sagarin ratings.
The 2025 Cowboys went 1-11: After winning their opener, they lost their final 11 games, including all nine Big 12 contests. They entered the Oregon matchup on a 12-game losing streak.
Oklahoma State might enjoy a quick resurgence behind Mestemaker, a North Texas transfer who followed his former Mean Green head coach (and now Cowboys leader) Eric Morris to Stillwater.
Still, this is a brutal loss for Oregon, which plays Portland State at home next week before starting the Big Ten slate with a potentially tough road matchup at No. 14 USC.
