Trinidad Chambliss Takes Blame for 'Bad Decisions' and Hypes Ole Miss WR Deuce Alexander

No. 9 Ole Miss escaped with a 41-38 win over No. 24 Louisville in Sunday's season opener, but quarterback Trinidad Chambliss wasn't pleased with his performance in the victory.

It was clear that the Rebels were in for a long night when the ball was snapped over Chambliss' head on the second play from scrimmage. The senior signal-caller also lost a fumble and threw an interception in the first half before Ole Miss needed a last-second 48-yard field goal from Lucas Carneiro to earn the three-point win.

"You obviously don't want to start like that," Chambliss said after the game, per ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "I'm making bad decisions, turning over the ball, not being comfortable in the pocket, and just not playing the type of ball I'm capable of. I guess I had to just get used to playing again."

Besides the two turnovers, Chambliss had a solid outing, completing 21 of his 36 passes for 336 yards and three touchdowns. He also registered nine carries for 60 yards and another score.

However, the star of the show was junior wide receiver Deuce Alexander, who caught a pair of 62-yard touchdowns from Chambliss and finished with five catches for 159 yards. Schlabach noted that Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding previously worked at Alabama as a defensive coordinator and "compared Alexander to former Crimson Tide star wide receiver Jameson Williams because of Alexander's elite speed." His quarterback had high praise for him as well.

"He's just a playmaker," Chambliss said of Alexander. "We knew that going into the year. He's one of the best receivers in the country, and we've got to use him."

Ole Miss will hope for a more dominant performance when it hosts Charlotte in its home opener in Week 2. The Rebels will need all the momentum they can get before a highly anticipated showdown against LSU and former head coach Lane Kiffin on Sept. 19.
