Lane Kiffin Says LSU's Mock Team Scored More Than Clemson After 51-10 Win in Tigers HC Debut

LSU head coach Lane Kiffin reacted to his team's blowout victory over Dabo Swinney and Clemson in their season-opening clash, winning by the final score of 51-10 at Tiger Stadium.

When asked by ESPN's Laura Rutledge about how the contest compared to LSU's mock game ahead of the matchup, Kiffin said that his mock team fared better than Clemson did.

"Our mock team scored more points against us than them," Kiffin said (h/t John Eads of WAFB-TV).

LSU didn't open the game on a high note, as a pass from quarterback Sam Leavitt was intercepted on the team's first possession.

The Tigers got back on track quickly and ended up taking a 17-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, though.

LSU found the end zone twice in the second quarter, holding a 31-3 advantage at halftime before cruising to the victory during the final two quarters.

Kiffin's squad finished with 38 first downs and 644 total yards. This included 309 rush yards, as LSU averaged 5.3 yards per carry as a team.

Leavitt went 16-of-28 for 230 yards and one touchdown compared to one interception. He also rushed for 113 yards on 12 attempts, scoring twice on the ground.

Winston Watkins Jr. was Leavitt's top target, hauling in seven receptions for 110 yards and a touchdown.

Meanwhile, LSU running back Dilin Jones picked up 113 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries.

The Tigers moved to 1-0 as they begin Kiffin's first year patrolling the sidelines in Baton Rouge.
