Dan Lanning Says Oregon Has 'A Lot to Fix' After Narrowly Avoiding Boise State's Upset Bid

No. 2 Oregon football escaped visiting Boise State's upset effort by defeating the Broncos 34-27 on Saturday afternoon.

Afterward, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning said during his postgame interview with CBS Sports' Jenny Dell that the Ducks have "a lot to fix" and "a lot to clean up."

Oregon was a 24.5-point favorite, per FanDuel Sportsbook, but Boise State kicker Canaan More tied the game at 27 following his 36-yard field goal with 8:45 left in regulation.

However, Ducks quarterback Dante Moore responded with a 62-yard touchdown pass to Dakorien Moore just two plays from scrimmage later.

Boise State had two more possessions but never threatened to score after going three-and-out and then turning the ball over on downs at its own 31-yard line.

Oregon had 10 penalties for 90 yards (compared to Boise State's three infractions for 25 yards), and that might be chief among the things Lanning addresses with his team. The Ducks also struggled on third down (4-of-12) and fourth down (0-of-3).

Oregon's defensive effort left some to be desired. Although Boise State rushed for just 2.6 yards per carry, the passing game made plays, with quarterback Maddux Madsen accounting for 181 yards and three touchdowns.

He didn't have the greatest completion rate (15-of-29), but that didn't matter much as Madsen ultimately kept the Broncos in this game.

Boise State also posted two 75-yard touchdown drives and converted 2-of-3 fourth downs.

Oregon wide receiver Evan Stewart also muffed a punt that immediately led to Madsen finding running back Sire Gaines for a 38-yard touchdown pass.

There was plenty to be happy about as well. Oregon did out-gain Boise State 497-294, with Dante Moore throwing for 378 yards and three touchdowns. The Ducks' skill-position players were exceptional, with Jeremiah McClellan (6/150/1) and Moore (6/93/1) enjoying great days through the air and Jordan Davison (12/90/1) enjoying an efficient outing on the ground. Oregon's offensive line put these players in position to make things happen as well.

The Ducks will now hit the road to face Oklahoma State on Saturday, Sept. 12 at noon ET.
