Dae'Quan Wright Waived by Browns, TE Linked to Lane Kiffin's LSU as CFB Transfer Portal Landing Spot
Former Ole Miss tight end Dae'Quan Wright—who recently entered the NCAA transfer portal—has been released by the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Schefter reported Sunday that Cleveland is waiving the tight end, who will join LSU if he clears NFL waivers.
"Wright is believed to be the first player who could play for an NFL team, and then go back to play in college," Schefter added."
Max Olson of ESPN reported Thursday that Wright, former SMU running back TJ Harden, former BYU offensive lineman Weylin Lapuaho, former Ole Miss defensive lineman Zxavian Harris, former James Madison linebacker Trent Hendrick, former Appalachian State cornerback Ethan Johnson and former New Mexico kicker Luke Drzewiecki are entering the portal.
They are able to do so thanks to a temporary restraining order granted by a Louisiana court.
On Wednesday, the Associated Press noted 33 athletes in various sports—including 16 football players—were part of a lawsuit as they sought a fifth year of collegiate eligibility. The temporary restraining order from a Louisiana court made them eligible to return.
Brad Crawford of CBS Sports noted Wright, who has been a member of the Browns' practice squad during training camp, is the first active NFL player to enter the collegiate transfer portal.
While he went undrafted in April, he helped lead Ole Miss to a College Football Playoff spot in his final season with 39 catches for 635 yards and five touchdowns.
He scored one of his touchdowns during an SEC win over South Carolina and another during the Rebels' CFP loss to Miami in the national semifinals.
Harris was also part of that Ole Miss team and finished the 2025 season with 58 tackles, nine tackles for loss, three sacks, three passes defended and one interception.
He also went undrafted in April.
