Best Golazos from World Football This Weekend
The Golazo Gods were looking down kindly on world football over the weekend, making it difficult to whittle our weekend ranking down to 10 brilliant strikes.
Honourable mentions go to Douglas Costa for his effort against Hamburg, Ross Barkley's second tidy finish in two weeks, Dimitri Payet's beauty against Leicester, Joel Ward's daisy-cutter against Arsenal, Scott Malone's brilliant 90th-minute equaliser against QPR, Michael Chopra's lovely volley against Rangers and, last but definitely not least, Daniel Purdy's wonderful free kick in the League of Ireland.
Here follows the 10 goals that did make the cut. Take a look through and be sure to leave a comment about your favourite...
10. Hamari Traore (Stade Reims) vs. Marseille
1 of 10Reims climbed to the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday following a 1-0 victory over Marseille.
The only goal of the game was a moment of magic from Hamari Traore, who stormed in to pick up a clearance from a corner to thunder the ball home.
Not a bad finish for a defender!
9. Mikel San Jose (Athletic Bilbao) vs. Barcelona
2 of 10Barcelona's chances of achieving a sextuple of trophies in 2015 took a major dent on Friday evening when they were thrashed 4-0 by Athletic Club in the first leg of the Spanish Super Cup.
The scoring was kicked off by Mikel San Jose, who embarrassed Marc-Andre Ter Stegen with a sensational lob from the centre circle.
8. Miguel Veloso (Dynamo Kiev) vs. Karpaty
3 of 10Dynamo Kiev remained top of the Ukrainian Premier League after a comfortable win over Karpaty on Saturday.
The scoring was opened in the 22nd minute by Portuguese midfielder Miguel Veloso, who put away a fine long-range free kick.
7. Oussama Tannane (Heracles) vs. NEC
4 of 10Veloso's free kick, however, was not the best of the weekend.
Five minutes into Heracles' 3-0 victory over Eredivisie rivals NEC on Sunday, striker Oussama Tannane channeled his inner Cristiano Ronaldo to open the scoring with a fantastic knuckle-ball free kick.
Take a bow, son.
6. Nathan (Vitesse) vs. Roda JC
5 of 10Brazilian midfielder Nathan was bought by Chelsea in July and immediately farmed out to Vitesse.
The 19-year-old showed why the Blues invested in his talents when he scored a sublime curling effort in a 3-0 Eredivisie win over Roda JC on Friday evening.
5. Diego Fabbrini (Middlesbrough) vs. Bolton
6 of 10
Middlesbrough earned their first win of their 2015-16 campaign by putting three unanswered goals past Bolton at the Riverside.
The opener was a 25-yard stunner from Italian striker Diego Fabbrini.
4. Fabien Camus (Troyes) vs. Nice
7 of 10Troyes fought back from 3-1 down to earn a 3-3 draw with Nice on Saturday.
The highlight of the game was Troyes' second goal, a powerful long-ranger from Tunisian midfielder Fabien Camus.
3. Kamil Grosicki (Rennes) vs. Montpellier
8 of 10This finest goal in France over the weekend came from the right boot of Rennes striker Kamil Grosicki.
In the 85th minute of their bout with Montpellier, the 27-year-old Pole cut in from the left wing and curled a worldie over the unsuspecting keeper.
2. Khairul Nizam (Singapore LionsXII) vs. Selangor
9 of 10Those who do not keep up with the Malaysian Super League may not be aware that Singapore LionsXII (who, presumably, do not field 12 players) drew 1-1 with Selangor on Saturday.
Selangor were leading with two minutes left on the clock when Khairul Nizam met a cross with a wonderful flying scissor kick.
1. Samuel Eto'o (Antalyaspor) vs. Istanbul Basaksehir
10 of 10Samuel Eto'o made his debut for Turkish Super Lig side Antalyaspor in their clash with Basaksehir on Saturday evening.
The 34-year-old proved that his talents have yet to abandon him by scoring his 366th and 367th career goals (as per Samuel Eto'o).
The second goal, which proved to be the winner in a match that finished 3-2, was an absolutely outstanding volley.
