Laremy Tunsil Reportedly Suffers Torn Triceps Injury, Latest Rumors on Commanders Star's Status

Washington Commanders left tackle Laremy Tunsil suffered a torn triceps during a training camp practice on Saturday that will force him to miss "at least a significant portion of the regular season," per Steve Wyche and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, who provided more information.

ESPN's John Keim also provided more information.

"Tunsil was hurt in Saturday's practice in a one-on-one pass rush drill vs. Odafe Oweh. The linebacker started upfield then rushed inside and drove into his upper body.

"Tunsil immediately bent over in apparent pain and held his right side and headed to the medical tent just off the field. He then left the tent and went into the building for further evaluation."

The 32-year-old Tunsil is a five-time Pro Bowler entering his 11th NFL season and second with Washington.

Losing Tunsil for any amount of time is a devastating blow. He just enjoyed a impressive 2025 season. Per Pro Football Focus, the former Ole Miss star ranked sixth overall among 89 tackles and second in pass blocking.

Washington obviously liked what it saw from Tunsil and gave him a lucrative contract extension back in March. NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe relayed the details.

Keim provided a snapshot of what the line might look like without Tunsil.

"If Laremy Tunsil indeed requires surgery, the timeline could be anywhere from 4-6 or 7 months. But more information still needed. Brandon Coleman is a strong option to move outside to LT. Has started 15 games the last two years at LT. Had been battling Chris Paul at LG.

"They also have Andrew Wylie, who typically replaces Tunsil in practice but has played almost exclusively on the right side. He's played 5 snaps at LT in his career - each one occurred as part of an unbalanced line or in short yardage."

The Commanders dealt with a wave of injuries last season that played a pivotal part in the team going from 12-5 (and an NFC Championship Game appearance) in 2024 to 5-12 in 2025.

Star quarterback Jayden Daniels played just seven games due to three injuries: a left knee sprain, a right hamstring strain and a dislocated left elbow.

Running back Austin Ekeler suffered a torn Achilles tendon in Week 2, edge rusher Dorance Armstrong Jr. suffered a torn ACL in Week 7, cornerback Marshon Lattimore suffered a torn left ACL in Week 9 and cornerback Trey Amos suffered a fractured fibula in Week 10.

Needless to say, this is another brutal blow in a stretch that has seen the team suffer a tough run of injuries. Hopefully Tunsil can return this season as the Commanders look to put the 2025 campaign well behind them.
