The Wildcats were without Avery Johnson, who is among the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. With Johnson missing the game due to injury, Dillon Duff got the start, but head coach Collin Klein mostly used Blake Barnett.

After a slow start for both offenses, Colorado got on the board first late in the first quarter when running back Richard Young scored a rushing touchdown from two yards out:

The Buffs were on the verge of extending their lead to 14-0 in the second quarter, but disaster struck during a dynamic run by DeKalon Taylor.

Taylor scampered 30 yards and appeared set to score a touchdown, but he was stripped of the ball at the goal line by cornerback Kaleb Patterson and fumbled the ball into the end zone for a touchback:

Kansas State quickly took advantage of that huge defensive play by driving 80 yards in 11 plays, culminating in a 28-yard touchdown pass from Barnett to wide receiver Josh Manning:

That tied the score at 7-7 before halftime and gave the Wildcats a ton of momentum entering the break.

Colorado and Kansas State traded punts coming out of the half until the Buffaloes got back in the end zone late in the third quarter on a 47-yard run by JaQuail Smith:

That score seemed to energize the K-State offense, which tied the score back up at 14-14 just over two minutes later on a 33-yard touchdown strike from Barnett to tight end Linkon Cure:

The Colorado rushing attack continued to roll on the ensuing drive with Young scoring his second touchdown of the day on the ground to restore the Buffaloes' seven-point lead with 12:27 remaining in regulation:

Colorado seemed poised to win the game in regulation, but it was unable to run out the clock on offense and had to punt the ball back to Kansas State with less than a minute left.

Barnett impressively moved the Wildcats down the field with swiftness and threw the game-tying touchdown on a jump pass to tight end Garrett Oakley with two seconds left:

Klein flirted with going for two, but instead settled for the standard extra point to send the game to OT.

After a Kansas State field goal on the first overtime possession, Colorado won it with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Isaac Wilson to Charlie Williams on a third-and-9 play:

With the win, Colorado snapped a five-game losing streak and inched closer to bowl eligibility.

Kansas State fell to .500 on the year, and it has now lost two games in a row and four of its past five following a 3-0 start to the campaign.

Colorado will try to run the winning streak to two next Saturday when it goes on the road to face Arizona State, while K-State is set to host quarterback Drew Mestemaker 24th-ranked Oklahoma State next Saturday.
