1 of 2The annual Halloween Havoc event actually took place on Halloween night this year instead of just happening on a day near the holiday, so WWE really leaned into it by having lots of people dressing in costumes. The fans in the crowd were embracing the spooky vibes, too.
Danhausen might not have had the best time hosting SmackDown thanks to Gunther attacking him, but he was hoping Halloween Havoc would give him a second chance.
He and the Minihausens came out to kick off the show with a promo in the ring. He hyped the show in his usual style, and he promised the NXT stars a night to remember because he turned several places in the arena into scare rooms.
Tavion Heights vs. Myles Borne
2 of 2The first bout was a Weapons Wild match, and it featured two men who used to be the best of friends. Tavion Heights took on his former tag team partner, Myles Borne.
Both men were dressed in special gear for the Halloween event. Heights took control initially, but Borne used a kendo stick to gain the advantage. His heel turn has had a slow start, but he has a look of intensity in his eyes that said he is ready to embrace his dark side.
The crowd popped when Heights grabbed a table from under the ring to set up at ringside, but Borne used a steel chair to cut him off before he could do anything with it.
These are two young, hungry wrestlers who have been impressive during their respective NXT runs, so seeing them get the spotlight at the beginning of the show was great. They clearly wanted to deliver a memorable performance, and they did not hold back with the physicality.
With WWE being the product that it is, this was never going to be a bloody mess, but they still found ways to make it feel violent without needing to rely on blading or using many weapons outside of the usual wrestling arsenal.
This was a strong performance from two guys who are still looking to make the jump into NXT's main event scene. Borne used one of the cameras to knock Heights off the top rope and through a table, allowing him to hit his finisher for the win.
Result:ย Borne defeated Heights
Grade:ย B+
Notable Moments and Observations
- Being sprayed with a fire extinguisher is not a fun experience. If anyone questions why it works in matches, it's because it would actually work in a fight.
- It still feels weird to have commercial breaks during a a PLE. It just feels like an ordinary TV show.
- The suplex onto the chair at ringside looked very painful.
- Borne took a nasty shot from the trash can to the face like a champ.
- The way Borne tried to pin Heights with a chair and the steel steps was creative.
