New Warriors Rumors on Draymond Green Contract After LeBron James' Decision to Join 76ers in NBA FA

With LeBron James having made his free agency decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers, the Golden State Warriors can shift their focus elsewhere.

One of the team's first priorities will be re-signing Draymond Green after he opted out of his player option to give the Warriors more flexibility in free agency, and specifically in the pursuit of James.

According to The Athletic's Joe Vardon and David Aldridge, Golden State is expected to re-sign Green for nearly $28 million, which is roughly the same salary he would have made had he opted into his contract.

While there was perhaps some uncertainty about Green returning to Golden State earlier this year, the career Warrior was never really a candidate to sign elsewhere this offseason.

Soon after the season ended, there were reports that Golden State preferred for Green to opt out of his contract and sign a team-friendlier deal, and James' decision to leave the Los Angeles Lakers pushed him into declining his player option.

Earlier this offseason, the expectation was for Green to decline his player option and sign a cheaper but longer deal. Now, it appears the Warriors could give Green about what he would make if he hadn't opted out.

Green, 36, is coming off a season in which he put up 8.4 points, 5.5 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
