New LeBron James Rumors on Decision Timeline, Reaction from Teams Eyeing NBA Free Agent

LeBron James reportedly won't be making a decision regarding his next team on Tuesday.

According to ESPN's Dave McMenamin, James still wasn't ready to choose his team for the 2026-27 season on Tuesday and there isn't an "elaborate rollout plan" for his eventual announcement.

"I've checked in with two people, one person from two different teams that are still in active pursuit and those two people both brought up the fact that, 'Hey, we have some family vacations planned here,'" McMenamin reported during an appearance on SportsCenter. "Now that doesn't mean because they have family vacations they're going to give up the pursuit, but there is a certain impracticality of this weight that is going to only get louder and louder if it keeps going and going."

McMenamin previously reported that the Golden State Warriors, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Miami Heat are among the teams that have continued to pursue James in free agency.

The NBA's all-time leading scorer is set to experience a change of scenery after he informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he would be playing elsewhere during his 2026-27 campaign.

Still, James remains available after free agency started on June 30.

On Friday, McMenamin reported that the four-time MVP's decision could potentially come "in the early part of next week."

NBA commissioner Adam Silver is also waiting for a decision, as he revealed that the league can't finalize next season's schedule until James signs with a new team.

"We have to finish up the schedule and where LeBron plays affects the schedule... It will influence how we set the schedule — opening week, Christmas," Silver said. "So I need him to make a decision."

James doesn't appear to be on the verge of making his choice, though.
