Knicks, Moussa Cissé Reportedly Agree to Contract, Latest on Mavs' Timeline to Match in NBA FA
The New York Knicks reportedly intend to add frontcourt depth following Mitchell Robinson's departure for the Boston Celtics.
Per NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Knicks have signed restricted free agent Moussa Cissé to a two-year contract, though the Dallas Mavericks have until Monday to match the offer sheet.
Cissé went undrafted last summer after a four-year college career with Memphis, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss, but signed a deal with the Mavericks, spending half the season in the NBA and half of it in the G League.
With the Mavs, he appeared in 38 games, posting 4.5 points, 5.7 boards and 1.2 blocks per game. At the G League level, he averaged 14.7 points, 13.1 rebounds and 2.1 blocks per game, showing flashes of an elite rim protector.
In Dallas' season finale, Cissé put up 17 points and grabbed 20 boards, perhaps putting himself on the radar of several teams ahead of the offseason.
In late June, the Mavericks extended Cissé a qualifying offer, making him a restricted free agent. Whether Dallas is willing to match the offer sheet the Knicks presented him with remains to be seen.
The Mavericks lost some frontcourt depth earlier this week when Marvin Bagley III signed with the Denver Nuggets, but they still have Dereck Lively II, Daniel Gafford and Santi Aldama, whom they acquired in a trade with the Memphis Grizzlies earlier this month.
The Knicks have also already added to their frontcourt this offseason, signing Andre Drummond to back up Karl-Anthony Towns, but the defending champs could use another near-7-footer like Cissé, especially with the departure of a key player like Robinson.
