Ja Morant Hints at LaMarcus Aldridge Jersey Retirement After Taking No. 1 After Blazers Trade
Ja Morant revealed that the Portland Trail Blazers may be looking to retire LaMarcus Aldridge's No. 12 jersey.
Morant explained that he wanted to continue wearing No. 12 once the star point guard was traded to Portland from the Memphis Grizzlies, but switched to No. 1 after talking to the team.
"The organization has other plans for it," Morant said, per Jason Quick of The Athletic.
Portland acquired the two-time All-Star as part of a June 29 swap with Memphis, sending out forward Jerami Grant and forward Kris Murray in return.
As for Aldridge, he spent nine seasons with the Trail Blazers from 2006-15.
The power forward blossomed into a star in Portland, helping the team make five playoff appearances. Aldridge received four All-Star nods and three All-NBA selections as a member of the organization.
He averaged 19.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game while shooting 48.5 percent from the field with Portland.
Aldridge sits at No. 1 on the team's all-time rebounding leaderboard and holds the No. 3 spot on its all-time scoring list.
His jersey could also be hanging in the rafters of the Moda Center in the near future.
