World Cup 2026 Odds, Bracket Picks and TV Schedule for Remainder of Tournament
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is down to its final eight. The round of 16 wrapped on Tuesday with Switzerland's remarkable walk-off win over Colombia on penalty kicks.
While Switzerland didn't enter the tournament as one of the favorites, several of the remaining nations did. France, Spain, Argentina, and England all remain alive and could conceivably comprise the final four.
With the quarterfinals set to get underway with Thursday's showdown between France and Morocco, let's take a look at what's ahead.

Preview and Bracket Picks
3 of 3
The tournament, which began with a record 48 nations, has been an absolute extravaganza to this point. Each team that has reached the quarterfinals has needed to battle its way here.
In fact, with the exception of Belgium and Morocco, the remaining teams all faced a tough test in the round of 16—Belgium rolled past the United States in a 4-1 laugher, while Morocco thrashed Canada 3-0.
Switzerland won on PKs, while Argentina had to rally from a second-half two-goal deficit against Egypt. Spain narrowly outlasted Portugal in a 1-0 contest, while France had to endure a brutally physical (some might say dirty) game against Paraguay.
"I had never played a match like this, with so many hits," France midfielder Manu Koné said after the match, per Aaron Bracy of the Associated Press.
Norway upset Brazil thanks to some more tournament brilliance by Erling Haaland, while England had a resilient win for the ages against Mexico. The Three Lions managed to outlast Mexico at Estadio Azteca despite being down to 10 players for the final third of the match because of Jarell Quansah's red card.
There isn't a team left in the tournament that can be considered an easy out, regardless of what the odds might suggest.
Star power? The remaining teams have plenty of that, too. Haaland has been the talk of the tournament, and his ability to score from seemingly nowhere will give Norway a great shot at knifing through a terrific English defense. The English have their own star striker in Harry Kane, who scored one of their three goals in the win over Mexico.
France boasts Kylian Mbappé, who leads a star-studded attack that also features Ousmane Dembélé, Michael Olise, and Bradley Barcola. Argentina, of course, features Lionel Messi, who is looking to deliver back-to-back World Cup championships for La Albiceleste.
Not-so-coincidentally, Messi (eight goals), Haagland (seven), Mbappé (seven), and Kane (six) are all in contention for the Golden Boot.
Not every star is a striker, of course. Spain's defense has yet to concede a goal in this tournament, and keeper Unai Simón has a World Cup clean sheet that dates back to December of 2022.
While stars like Haagland and Messi may will their teams to victory, stylistic matchups will be important, too. The Spanish, for example, will have to rely on their defense, precision passing, and ball control to stymie a Belgian attack that found its rhythm against the United States.
There are just seven games remaining in the 2026 World Cup proper (plus the third-place contest), and from here on out, each of them is likely to be a combination of sport, art, and drama.
