Tim Hardaway Jr. Teases Heat Jersey Number in IG Photo After Dad's Comments About Retired No. 10
It seems like Tim Hardaway Jr. will wear No. 10 with the Miami Heat after all.
Hardaway took to Instagram and revealed as much:
This is notable since his father, Tim Hardaway, wore No. 10 with the Heat during his own career. The number was raised to the rafters in 2009, and nobody has donned it in Miami since the elder Hardaway's final season with the franchise in 2000-01.
He previously said he wouldn't un-retire the number for his son during an interview on Hochman, Crowder & Solana:
Alas, he may have been tongue-in-cheek with those comments, as it appears the younger Hardaway will carry on his father's legacy with the number in Miami.
Hardaway Jr. agreed to a one-year deal with Miami this offseason and figures to provide important outside shooting when opposing defenses collapse on Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo.
But his decision to join the Heat was also notable since his father is so closely associated with the team.
The older Hardaway played in Miami from when the Golden State Warriors traded him there during the 1995-96 season through the 2000-01 one. He was a two-time All-Star and three-time All-NBA selection during his time with the Heat, including when he was an All-NBA First-Team selection who finished fourth in MVP voting during the 1996-97 campaign.
Miami advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals that season before it was eliminated by Michael Jordan's Chicago Bulls.
He remains second in franchise history to only Dwyane Wade with 2,867 assists and will surely attend plenty of Miami games this season following his son's decision.
And when he does, he will see the No. 10 back in action.
