Patrick Ewing Reportedly in Talks to Join NBA Coaching Staff After Serving as Knicks Advisor
New York Knicks legend and Basketball Hall of Famer Patrick Ewing is having discussions with the Washington Wizards to join the team's coaching staff, per SNY's Ian Begley.
Ewing was an 11-time All-Star and seven-time All-NBA player during his 17-year career from 1985-86 to 2001-02. He played for the Knicks for 15 of those seasons, helping lead New York to a pair of Eastern Conference championships.

Ewing has been a coach for the better part of the two-and-a-half decades. His career actually started with the Washington Wizards in 2002 as an assistant for the 2002-03 season. He then moved onto the Houston Rockets (2003-2007), Orlando Magic (2007-2012) and Charlotte Bobcats/Hornets (2013-2017) as an assistant.
Ewing then went back to his alma mater, Georgetown, and served as the Hoyas' head coach from 2017-2023.
The highlight of his tenure occurred in 2021, when he led the Hoyas to the Big East tournament championship. Ewing and the Hoyas parted ways in 2023, culminating a 75–109 tenure.
Ewing began working for the Knicks in Oct. 2024 as a Basketball Ambassador. The Knicks made the Eastern Conference Finals in 2025 and just won their first NBA championship in 53 years this past season.
Now it appears Ewing is moving back to the NBA sidelines as an assistant. He would join a Wizards team that went 14-68 last year but has great potential to make significant improvements in 2026-27 with Trae Young, Anthony Davis and now No. 1 overall draft pick AJ Dybantsa aboard.
