Reviewing New NBA Rumors and Fresh Predictions for Trades, Free-Agent Contracts
The arrival of free agency in the NBA has brought with it a rumor mill brimming with the latest on some of the game's top stars, none bigger than four-time NBA champion and four-time league MVP, LeBron James.
Find out the latest on James and more with this collection of reports from the game's most trusted insiders.
Update on Warriors' Pursuit of LeBron
1 of 3
From the moment LeBron James informed the Los Angeles Lakers that he would not be returning for the 2026-27 season, the Golden State Warriors have been the team to watch, with James' desire to play with Steph Curry clear.
Anthony Slater of ESPN reported, though, "The Warriors, meanwhile, have been given indications from James that they remain on his short list, but team sources have expressed a recent belief that they aren't necessarily at the top of that short list, as James continues to survey the landscape."
Perhaps that is because Golden State finished 10th in the Eastern Conference this past season and fell to the Phoenix Suns in the play-in game. Maybe it is because both Curry and Draymond Green are aging and, like James, have far less basketball in front of them than behind them.
Or, perhaps, he does not view it as the best fit for him based on his skills set.
Regardless, James will have plenty of suitors and some will be a better fit, and better championship contenders, than this current Warriors squad.
A team like Philadelphia, perhaps?
A New Suitor for James Has Entered the Chat

Slater reported that the Warriors, Miami Heat, and Cleveland Cavaliers are all expected to be suitors for James' services this offseason, but a new and unexpected team has emerged.
Shams Charania reported that "One day after swinging a shocking trade for superstar wing Jaylen Brown, the Philadelphia 76ers have entered the mix for unrestricted free agent LeBron James and are attempting to pitch him."
Philadelphia kicked their offseason off by trading Paul George, two first-round picks, and two second-round picks to the Boston Celtics for MVP contender Jaylen Brown, who scored 28.7 points per game last season.
Brian Windhorst of ESPN reported on NBA Today that Tyrese Maxey would be a key recruiting tool for the 76ers as he shares the same Klutch Sports agency as the four-time NBA champion (h/t The NBA Base on X).
Adding James to a team that already has Green, Maxey, and Joel Embiid would undoubtedly make Philadelphia the favorite to win the NBA title, even if the defending champion New York Knicks are in the same conference.
James has previously spoken highly of Maxey and participated in offseason workouts with him. In 2024, won Olympic gold with Embiid.
The familiarity is there, but James would have to take a significant pay cut for Philly to afford his services for the upcoming season. The team currently has $25,416,142 of 1st apron cap space available, per Spotrac, for the 2026-27 season.
James made $52,627,153 last season with the Lakers.
Still, if James' intention is to win a championship, taking a pay cut to join what is essentially an All-Star team is a sacrifice he will have to be willing to make.
If, that is, Philly is the destination.
Prediction: They may not be at the top of the list, but James ends up with the Warriors
Teams Interested in Rui Hachimura
3 of 3
The Los Angeles Lakers cannot currently afford to pay free agent forward Rui Hachimura this offseason, but there are two teams interested in acquiring him.
Marc Stein and Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported that the Minnesota Timberwolves and Golden State Warriors are both in on him.
The report notes that Minnesota, in particular, is in need of a power forward after they traded both Naz Reid and Julius Randle this offseason and Hachimura is their first choice to pair with LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards.
Hachimura averaged 11.5 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.8 assists, and 0.6 steals in 28.3 minutes per game this season.
The 28-year-old would have great potential for a career-year in Minnesota, especially with defenses keying in on Edwards and Ball, thus creating opportunities for him to score.
ESPN's Dave McMenamin reported, "That Hachimura remains unsigned caused several league sources to wonder whether the Lakers are planning some sort of trade or using the stretch provision on perhaps Jarred Vanderbilt or Deandre Ayton to be able to offer Hachimura more."
While that is a possibility, one would be hard-pressed to argue that a return to Los Angeles would not be a lateral move for Hachimura, when there are teams willing to give him significantly more playing time and responsibility.
Prediction: Hachimura moves on from Los Angeles, signs with Minnesota
