76ers, Celtics Updated NBA Title Odds After Blockbuster Jaylen Brown-Paul George Trade

Scott PolacekJul 1, 2026

The Boston Celtics didn't land Giannis Antetokounmpo, but they reportedly ended up trading Jaylen Brown anyway in a move that will impact the title picture in the Eastern Conference.

ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday the Celtics traded Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for two first-round picks and two second-round picks. Given their position as Eastern Conference rivals, it understandably impacted both teams' title odds.

According to FanDuel Sportsbook as of Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. ET, the 76ers are now +3,000 (bet $100 to win $3,000) to win the championship next season. The Celtics still have lower odds at +1,200, but they were previously listed at +700.

Philadelphia was previously at +7,000.

The writing seemed to be on the wall for Brown's tenure with Boston when Charania reported last month the team offered him to the Milwaukee Bucks as it "aggressively pursued" Giannis Antetokounmpo.

However, Milwaukee decided to trade the future Hall of Famer to the Miami Heat.

Brown was immediately linked to other teams in trade rumors and recently turned heads when he liked an Instagram comment calling for Boston to trade him to "a city who respects him."

On Monday, ESPN's Brian Windhorst reported the Celtics were "very motivated" to trade the five-time All-Star and "offering him everywhere." Philadelphia was clearly one of the teams they offered, and the 76ers responded by landing one of the league's top playmakers on the wing.

Brown's resume includes a championship, NBA Finals MVP, an Eastern Conference Finals MVP, two All-NBA selections and those five All-Star nods. He exceeded the high expectations that were put in place when Boston brought him in with the No. 3 overall pick of the 2016 NBA draft and will forever be a notable member of the franchise's storied history regardless of this offseason's drama.

Philadelphia is landing Brown after his best individual season.

With Jayson Tatum sidelined for much of the 2025-26 campaign as he recovered from an Achilles injury, Brown led the way for the Celtics and averaged career-highs in points (28.7), rebounds (6.9) and assists (5.1) per game.

That was good enough to earn All-NBA Second Team recognition and finish sixth in MVP voting.

He will look to build on that individual momentum with the 76ers following this trade.
