New LeBron James Rumors Reveal Plans to Film Documentary During 2026-27 NBA Season After Lakers Exit
LeBron James could end up turning his historic 24th NBA season into a movie.
Yahoo Sports' Kevin O'Connor reported Wednesday that "multiple league sources say LeBron has had discussions about filming the entire season, with live-streaming potentially folded into the final product."
James confirmed Wednesday that he plans to leave the Lakers in unrestricted free agency this offseason.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors have since been tied to James as potential landing spots for the 2026-27 campaign.
O'Connor pointed out the money from this documentary project could help James recoup money should he take a minimum deal.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday that James was willing to take a minimum deal to play for a contender, and that he would not make a "financially-driven decision."
That matches what James' agent Rich Paul said on Wednesday's episode of Game Over with Max Kellerman and Rich Paul, when he told Kellerman he felt "competitiveness" more than money would determine where James played next season.
That would simultaneously put James on track to play for a team that would be a more entertaining subject for a season-long documentary.
Paul also said he'd talked to at least a dozen NBA teams including the Warriors since the start of free agency Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET.
The Warriors and Cavaliers have emerged so far as betting favorites to land James. Signing with the Warriors would give James the chance to play with his former Team USA teammate Stephen Curry, while joining the Cavaliers would constitute a full-circle moment after starting his career there.
Either would make a compelling documentary subject. That might be a factor James is considering as he decides where to play what could be the final season of his legendary NBA career.
