Mexico vs. Ecuador Top Storylines, Odds, Live Stream for World Cup 2026
Mexico will try to become the second of the three 2026 FIFA World Cup co-hosts to win a knockout-round game on Tuesday against Ecuador.
Mexico was one of three group winners to earn the full nine points from three games. France and Argentina were the others.
Tuesday's game in Mexico City presents a tricky test for El Tri in the form of Ecuador.
Ecuador is one of the more sound defensive teams in South America and it is used to playing at altitude. That could make for a tight, low-scoring affair at the Estadio Azteca.

Mexico was buoyed by its home-field advantage throughout Group A.
El Tri scored six goals and didn't concede over three wins against South Africa, South Korea and Czechia.
All of the momentum is on the side of Mexico and the expectation is for it to at least reach the round of 16, where England potentially awaits.
Getting through Ecuador will be tough, though, as the South American side typically doesn't give up an abundance of goals.
Ecuador conceded twice in the group stage, including just once to group winner Germany. It allowed just five goals across 18 games in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying.
Ecuador will sit deep and defend and find plenty of success with that game plan.
Mexico needs to find a way for its attackers to work through a tough defense. Julian Quinones might be the key to winning for El Tri.
Quinones has arguably been Mexico's best player so far at the World Cup with a pair of goals.
Quinones' on-ball activity has the potential to cause all sorts of issues to the Ecuador back line.
The home side will control the bulk of the chances and possession. Ecuador has absolutely no problem dragging the game into extra time or penalties.
The more game drags on, the more pressure will mount on Mexico. How El Tri deals with the pressure to move on as a co-host as well as Ecuador's defensive stature will decide how the match plays out.
