Jaylen Brown Makes Cryptic Post About Cats amid Celtics Trade Rumors After Giannis-to-Heat Deal

Adam WellsJun 24, 2026

It's been almost two weeks since Jaylen Brown posted something vague and cryptic on social media, so thankfully he's back with a message that online sleuths are no doubt trying to decipher the meaning behind.

Brown, whose name continues to pop up in trade rumors even after he didn't get dealt to the Milwaukee Bucks for Giannis Antetokounmpo, posted on X about his love of cats.

If you're not keeping track of Brown's social media activity, this post comes on the heels of a June 11 musing in which he wrote: "The neighbors rice always smells better."

Brown has made himself into something of a social media star since the Boston Celtics' season ended. He primarily does his best work on Twitch, joking at one point that he was starting a GoFundMe to cover his $50,000 fine for criticizing the officials.

More recently, Brown has said the criticisms and doubters are turning him into a "monster."

Wednesday's post seems rather innocuous by comparison. There's nothing wrong with being a fan of cats; many people are—including at least one NHL team:

ESPN's Shams Charania said prior to the first round of the draft on Tuesday that the Celtics were still being aggressive "in taking calls, in making calls, listening in on potential offers" for Brown after previously offering him and two first-round picks to the Bucks for Antetokounmpo.

It would be easy to read into the post if there were an NBA team with a cat-related nickname. The closest one is the Timberwolves, who are potentially facing a situation in which Anthony Edwards could get restless if they can't get into the top tier of Western Conference contenders.

Minnesota made a significant deal on Monday night by essentially salary-dumping Julius Randle in a three-team trade with the Chicago Bulls and Brooklyn Nets. The T-Wolves did agree to a five-year, $112 million contract with Ayo Dosunmu around the same time, and they created a $33 million trade exception in the Randle deal.

Even with that added financial flexibility, though, it's hard to imagine the Timberwolves having enough assets to really entice the Celtics in a trade for Brown.

Instead, until there is some potential resolution to the Brown saga, we can only infer that his post about loving cats simply means he loves cats.
