New NBA Rumors Reveal Anthony Edwards' Mindset on T-Wolves Future After Giannis Trade Pursuit
After the Minnesota Timberwolves fell short in their pursuit of star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, many are wondering about star guard Anthony Edwards' future with the franchise.
During Tuesday's episode of Brian Windhorst & The Hoop Collective (35:30 mark), ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported, "The NBA vultures are swirling around Ant in anticipation of him potentially becoming the next superstar who's available in the trade market." However, The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski revealed that Edwards appears content to stay with the Timberwolves and try to lead them to the promised land.
"According to multiple people with knowledge of Edwards' thinking, the Timberwolves star is not flinching at the challenge ahead and believes the team has a bright future ahead of it," Krawczynski wrote.
Adding Antetokounmpo next to Edwards would have vaulted Minnesota to the top of the list of title contenders in the competitive Western Conference. However, a team source told Krawczynski that "one of the reasons the Wolves were unable to complete a trade for Antetokounmpo is that they resisted the Bucks' demands that [Jaden] McDaniels be included in the deal."
In addition to failing to acquire Antetokounmpo, the Timberwolves traded veteran forward Julius Randle to the Brooklyn Nets as part of a three-team deal that only netted them a 2026 second-round pick. Randle ranked second in scoring for Minnesota behind Edwards, so the 24-year-old will now be without his top running mate from last season.
Still, it sounds like Edwards isn't looking to force his way out of Minnesota just yet, so the Timberwolves will have to figure out how to add more talent around him to keep it that way.
