Portugal 5, Uzbekistan 0

Cristiano Ronaldo scored two first-half goals en route to leading Portugal to a resounding 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan in Houston.

Ronaldo, who became the only player to ever score a goal in six FIFA World Cups, got Portugal on the board in the sixth minute after striking a cross from João Cancelo into the back of the net.

Portugal threatened a few times even before that goal, and they kept the pressure on throughout the entire first half.

In the 16th minute, Nuno Mendes made it 2-0 after firing a free kick just outside the box.

Mendes got that opportunity after Pedro Neto was fouled on the edge of the penalty area.

Ronaldo scored his second goal and Portugal's third of the match after Bruno Fernandes made a great run in the middle of the field and found the captain with a lovely through ball. Ronaldo did the rest, finishing the goal with a shot just inside the left goalpost in the 39th minute.

Ronaldo nearly got a first-half hat trick but was denied thanks to an amazing clearance.

Portugal remained unstoppable in the second half. An own goal made it 4-0 in the 60th minute after João Félix's deflected it off Uzbekistan following a corner kick.

Portugal made it 5-0 in the 87th minute after Nélson Semedo fired a cross that deflected off Uzbekistan and found its way to Rafael Leão, who fired it home from just inside the box for Portugal's fifth.

Portugal have one more group match against Colombia on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET in Miami Gardens, Florida. Uzbekistan will play Congo DR to close out group play at the same day and time in Atlanta.

England 0, Ghana 0

England and Ghana fought to a nil-nil draw to continue Group L play.

Neither team had a shot on target until England winger Anthony Gordon's effort in the 57th minute.

Ghana had a great chance in the 79th minute when Prince Adu sprinted down the field with a shot at goal, but Ezri Konsa challenged in the box and deflected the ball away. No penalty was called.

Ghana goalkeeper Benjamin Asare later made an amazing save against English winger Bukayo Saka in the 86th minute to preserve the clean sheet.

Shortly thereafter, Nico O'Reilly's header hit the crossbar, and Harry Kane's effort missed the net.

A 0-0 match is a tough result for England, which had possession 78 percent of the time and took 19 total shots (three on goal). Ghana had just two total shots (one on goal).

Neither England nor Ghana has clinched a spot in the knockout round as of yet, although they are in good position to do so.

England and Ghana finish group play on Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. England plays Panama in East Rutherford, New Jersey, and Ghana plays Croatia at the same day and time in Philadelphia.

Croatia 1, Panama 0

Croatia's chances of reaching the knockout phase were revitalized on Tuesday night. Panama's were extinguished.

The Croatians won 1-0 on Ante Budimir's second-half goal, picking up a crucial three points as they look to move on past the group stage.

Panama, however, were eliminated from knockout phase contention.

Croatia still likely need to pick up a point when they face Ghana on Saturday, with four points looking like the likely requirement for third-place teams to move on. However, Croatia could also still win the group with a win an England draw or loss against Panama, leaving plenty up for grabs in Group L.

Colombia 1, DR Congo 0

It took well into the second half, but Colombia finally broke through against DR Congo on the way to a 1-0 victory.

The victors controlled the majority of the game and even enjoyed a 6-0 advantage in shots on goals in the first half. However, their first goal was called back for offside, and DR Congo goalkeeper Lionel Mpasi also turned in an excellent individual effort to keep his team within striking distance.

While it seemed like just a matter of time before Colombia would find the back of the net as the second half progressed, the DR Congo defense and Mpasi continued to stand strong.

In fact, he even turned away a golden opportunity for Luis Díaz.

All of that almost set the stage for a dramatic upset when DR Congo generated a threatening chance of their own following the final hydration break, but Colombia turned it away and then finally scored themselves when Daniel Muñoz found himself in the right place at the right time.

The ball trickled his way near the top of the box in the 76th minute, and he beat Mpasi with the help of a deflection.

That opened the floodgates to a degree, although Colombia had two late goals called back for a foul and offside. The whistles maintained the late drama since DR Congo needed just one moment to draw even, and it nearly arrived when Colombia goalkeeper Camilo Vargas made multiple diving saves in stoppage time.

The late heroics from Vargas and Muñoz were enough to preserve a critical win for their side.
