New Ja Morant Trade Rumors After Wolves Deal Julius Randle to Nets
The Minnesota Timberwolves' decision to trade Julius Randle freed up enough space for them to make a big signing or trade this offseason, but the team reportedly has no interest in Ja Morant.
The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski reported Monday that the Timberwolves aren't targeting the Memphis Grizzlies star and will look for backcourt help elsewhere.
Shortly after the Randle trade, Minnesota agreed to a five-year, $112 million deal to re-sign Ayo Dosunmu.
The Wolves still have options after the Randle deal created a $33.33 million TPE for the Wolves, but Morant's contract would not fit into that exception.
Morant has been on the trade block since last season, but the market seemingly isn't too big for the two-time All-Star, who has struggled to repeat the success he found earlier in his career.
The Athletic's Sam Amick reported last week that the Grizzlies are "hopeful" Morant will be the Plan B for a team that misses out on Giannis Antetokounmpo, who landed with the Miami Heat on a blockbuster deal. Amick also pointed to the Sacramento Kings as a possible landing spot.
Minnesota, meanwhile, will look to bolster the roster further around star Anthony Edwards.
