Aaron Wiggins Reportedly Traded to Hawks, Thunder's Updated NBA Draft Picks, Salary Cap Revealed

Andrew PetersJun 21, 2026

After falling short of winning a title in 2026, the Oklahoma City Thunder have made their first move of the offseason.

Per ESPN's Shams Charania, the Thunder are trading Aaron Wiggins to the Atlanta Hawks in return for two second-round picks. They will get Atlanta's 2030 second-round pick and the least favorable of the Hawks' or Lakers' 2032 second-rounder.

Wiggins carried a $9 million cap hit next season and an $8.1 million cap hit in 2027-28 and 2028-29.

Wiggins has been a developmental success story for the Thunder over the last few years. Drafted with the 55th overall pick in 2021, he has played a key role off the bench over the last two seasons, helping OKC win a championship in 2025.

Last season, he averaged 9.4 points, 3.1 rebounds, 1.7 assists and nearly a steal per game while playing 21.8 minutes per contest off the bench. In the 2026 playoffs, however, Wiggins wasn't nearly as effective, playing just 5.8 minutes per game in 13 contests.

Wiggins was a notable trade target for a few teams this offseason, as ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel noted last week that the Brooklyn Nets were interested in him. The Thunder reportedly are eyeing a trade up in this year's draft, but it seems Wiggins didn't have enough value to help Oklahoma City improve its draft stock this year.

The Thunder were already armed with plenty of future picks before the trade, so now they'll get even richer in that area. They have two first-rounders this year, potentially three next year and could have two more in 2028, depending on how other teams finish.

For a team like Oklahoma City, which is already a championship contender, that kind of draft capital can go a long way in the trade market.

The Hawks are a team on the rise after making the playoffs and beating the championship Knicks twice, something no other team did in the playoffs. Jalen Johnson is a budding star, Nickeil Alexander-Walker just had a career year and veteran guard CJ McCollum enjoyed a bit of a resurgence in the postseason.

Wiggins will have the chance to play a bigger role in Atlanta, and we could see a completely different player than the one we saw in Oklahoma City.

The Hawks likely aren't going to compete for a championship next year, but they're clearly going to be a team to watch in the East in the coming years.
