Marseille Eye Klopp As Bielsa Replacement

Monday, August 10

As noted by Bleacher Report’s French football expert, Jonathan Johnson, Mohamed Bouhafsi of RMC Sport claims the Ligue 1 giants see the German as an ideal replacement for Bielsa, who left his post just minutes after the team’s opening-day defeat to Caen, per BBC Sport.

Klopp left Dortmund this summer after a stellar spell with the club, guiding BVB to two league titles and the Champions League final in 2013. In June, the 48-year-old claimed that he was looking to take a break from the game, per BBC Sport, but Marseille may look to lure him from his hiatus to the impressive Stade Velodrome.

Bleacher Report’s Andy Brassell feels as though the French side may be a little ambitious in their targets, though:

Marseille do have pedigree. With a refurbished stadium, raucous supporters and a team of bright young players, there are certain parallels to draw between the Ligue 1 club and Dortmund when the German first took charge. But it’s debatable whether Klopp would want to oversee a job similar to the one he did so effectively at the Westfalenstadion.

As Sport Witness note here, other reports in France don't feel as though there is much chance of this one materialising:

Indeed, after asserting Dortmund back amongst the Bundesliga’s best, the German may bide his time and wait for an elite job to come along. But Marseille could represent a tantalising prospect for the fiercely ambitious Klopp, who may jump at the chance to get back involved in the game sooner rather than later.
