Devin Booker Reportedly Changing Suns Jersey Number, Reason Revealed Ahead of 2026-27 NBA Season
Devin Booker will have a new look in the 2026-27 season. Well, at least his uniform will.
The Phoenix Suns superstar is reportedly changing his jersey number, per ESPN's Shams Charania, going from No. 1 to No. 15 while "honoring his USA Basketball uniform and the college number of his father, Melvin."
Booker, 29, is the face of the franchise in Phoenix and opting for the same sort of jersey-number swap that Kobe Bryant did midway through his career (going from No. 8 to No. 24 in 2006).

It's unclear what the decision means for Phoenix center Mark Williams, if anything. The restricted free agent wore No. 15 this past season and likely will be back with the Suns next season, given that Phoenix can match any offer he receives, barring a shockingly lucrative offer from elsewhere.
Booker has enough pull in Phoenix that if he wants the No. 15, though, he'll get it. Often in these situations, an offer is made to the player currently holding the number.
Booker put up 26.1 points, six assists and 3.9 rebounds across 64 games during the 2025-26 season, shooting 45.6 percent from the field and 33 percent from three. He also led the Suns to the playoffs, making them one of the biggest surprises of the season after trading Kevin Durant to the Houston Rockets last summer and buying out Bradley Beal.
