New Giannis Trade Rumors Update Buzz Involving Heat, Celtics Ahead of 2026 NBA Draft

Andrew PetersJun 14, 2026

With the NBA season officially in the books, a split between the Milwaukee Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo could finally be coming.

According to NBA insider Marc Stein, a trade to send the two-time MVP elsewhere "is indeed drawing near." Stein added that while "the momentum continues to rest with the Miami Heat," the Boston Celtics are still in the mix as well.

In a potential deal to send Antetokounmpo to South Beach, Stein noted that the package from the Heat was presumably included Tyler Herro, Kel'el Ware and Jaime Jacquez Jr., as well as the No. 13 pick in next week's NBA draft.

That kind of return, full of players under the age of 26, would help expedite the rebuild that likely awaits Milwaukee if Antetokounmpo is traded.

While the Heat have been viewed as a landing spot for Antetokounmpo since last offseason, they're not alone in their pursuit of the superstar.

The Celtics, who reportedly are open to trading star Jaylen Brown, have made an offer for Antetokounmpo, according to Bill Simmons of The Ringer.

"From what I heard, they made an offer in the past week," Simmons said on his podcast on Sunday. "A couple days before I mentioned it on Thursday. I don't know what the offer was, and I don't know who was in it."

If Boston makes a deal for Antetokounmpo, it reportedly won't send Brown to Milwaukee. Ira Winderman of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel explained on 104.3 WQAM's The Joe Rose Show that the Bucks "don't want a player like" as they seek young talent and would instead try to redirect him to a third team.

The 29-year-old Brown should carry plenty of trade value after an MVP-caliber season saw him average 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game.

The Heat and Celtics have emerged as popular landing spots as of late, but the Portland Trail Blazers, Minnesota Timberwolves and Orlando Magic reportedly still have interest as well.
