New Giannis Trade Rumors Reveal When Celtics Made Offer amid Jaylen Brown Buzz Before NBA Draft

Scott PolacekJun 14, 2026

With the Boston Celtics reportedly interested in Giannis Antetokounmpo and perhaps willing to trade Jaylen Brown to make it happen, more details have emerged about their pursuit.

"From what I heard, they made an offer in the past week," Bill Simmons of The Ringer reported in a Sunday clip from his podcast. "A couple days before I mentioned it on Thursday. I don't know what the offer was, and I don't know who was in it."

Potential Giannis Landing Spots

His comments came after Kevin O'Connor of Yahoo Sports reported the Celtics were willing to trade anyone on the roster outside of Jayson Tatum.

"I have heard Boston is shopping people around a lot right now," O'Connor said. "That Boston is making calls, Boston is open to trading anybody besides Jayson Tatum. And that doesn't necessarily mean they land Giannis at the end of the day but I do believe, based off all the conversations I've had, is that the Celtics are in on Giannis. And if they are making a push on him and that this seems to be currently a two-team race with Milwaukee to acquire Giannis Antetokounmpo."

NBA insider Jake Fischer also reported the Miami Heat are interested in Antetokounmpo with an offer that is "widely presumed" to include guard Tyler Herro, center Kel'el Ware, forward Jaime Jacquez Jr. and draft capital.

Notably, he added Boston is "believed to be a potential suitor that genuinely concerns Miami."

Yet the Celtics will have to figure out a way to beat the Heat's offer, which may force them to include Brown in the deal.

If the Milwaukee Bucks trade Antetokounmpo for a package that includes Brown, that would mean taking on a significant contract. The Celtics playmaker has a cap hit of $57.1 million next season, $61 million in 2027-28 and $65 million in 2028-29.

But it would also mean taking on one of the best players in the NBA.

Brown was an All-NBA Second Team selection who finished sixth in MVP voting this past season while averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game and shooting 47.7 percent from the field and 34.7 percent from deep.

He carried the Celtics for extended stretches when Tatum was sidelined by injury and is still just 29 years old.

Losing Brown would be a difficult blow for the Celtics, but Antetokounmpo is also a generational talent when healthy. The future Hall of Famer would make quite the one-two punch alongside Tatum, and trade discussions could pick up steam in the coming days.

After all, the NBA draft is scheduled for June 23, and the Bucks will surely want to finish the deal if it is going to include draft capital.
