World Cup Bracket 2026 Full Tournament Schedule and Group Predictions
Forty-eight teams come into the 2026 FIFA World Cup with all sorts of aspirations.
The top nations in the sport, like Spain, France, Brazil and Argentina, are focused on winning the final on July 19.
But there are plenty of other nations that will see advancement from the group stage as a massive success.
The expansion from 32 to 48 teams opened the door for new countries to participate in the World Cup. That also means 32 of the 48 nations advance to the knockout stage.
Some of the group-stage games might not be appealing on paper, but they will matter in the context of the knockout round.
We're realistically going to see big names in the final, but there's still a chance for a Cinderella run or two that will be ignited by a strong group stage.
The full 2026 FIFA World Cup schedule can be found here.
Group J
1 of 3
Argentina is the headliner of Group J.
No one would be surprised if Lionel Messi and Co. run through the group stage with nine points.
The rest of Group J is an example of the opportunities presented in an expanded World Cup.
Algeria made it out of the group stage once in four World Cup appearances, Austria is in the tournament for the first time since 1998 and Jordan is making its first World Cup appearance.
At least one of those three teams will advance to the knockout round. A second Group J advancement is likely if the third-place team has at least three points.
Algeria only has one loss in the last year and it just beat the Netherlands in a pre-World Cup friendly in Rotterdam on June 3. Austria is in similar form with one loss since last June.
Jordan struggled in recent friendlies against Switzerland and Colombia. The Asian side conceded six goals in those contests, a sign that it might not be competitive in Group J.
If that's the case, Algeria and Austria have three points waiting for them against Jordan. The Algeria-Austria Matchday 3 clash will likely be for second place.
Algeria has the best difference-maker among the non-Argentina teams in Group J in former Manchester City and Leicester City forward Riyad Mahrez.
Mahrez has 38 international goals and scored three times at the 2025 African Cup of Nations.
Keep an eye on Mohamed Amoura as a potential breakout star for Algeria. He has 19 goals in 45 international appearances and he's scored 36 goals at the club level over the last three years in Belgium and Germany.
Prediction: 1. Argentina, 2. Algeria, 3. Austria, 4. Jordan
Group G
2 of 3
There are plenty of opportunities in Group G as well for nations that typically don't shine on the World Cup stage.
Belgium is the team to beat. Kevin De Bruyne and Romelu Lukaku are back for another World Cup, but this could be Jeremy Doku's breakout tournament.
The Manchester City star is only 24 and could be the key to taking some of the pressure off the older players in Belgium's squad. Look for him to be in contention for either the Golden Boot or the tournament lead in assists.
Belgium's made two runs to the quarterfinals in the last three World Cups, so the expectation is that it wins Group G with ease.
Mohamed Salah-led Egypt is only making its fourth-ever World Cup appearance. Salah will be the center of attention, but Egypt has a terrific goal-scorer in Omar Marmoush who could wreak havoc on all three defenses in Group G.
Iran's been eliminated in the group stage at the last three World Cups, but now it has a chance to win one game and enter the knockout phase.
Mehdi Taremi of Olympiacos is the top Iranian player to watch. He has 60 goals in 105 international appearances. Taremi and Iran could be a tricky opponent for Belgium and Egypt.
New Zealand is viewed as the worst team in Group G. A 4-0 loss to Haiti on June 2 lessened whatever expectations there were for the Kiwis.
Group G still has the potential for three teams to advance, and for Egypt and Iran, that achievement would be celebrated.
Prediction: 1. Belgium, 2. Egypt, 3. Iran, 4. New Zealand
