Josh Hart Calls Out 'Ridiculous' NBA Finals Ticket Prices for Knicks vs. Spurs Game 3
Monday's NBA Finals Game 3 between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs is sure to draw a raucous crowd at Madison Square Garden, but many fans haven't been able to afford the astronomical ticket prices.
While speaking to reporters on Sunday, Knicks forward Josh Hart called out the soaring costs to get into Monday's game, which will be the first NBA Finals matchup played at MSG since 1999.
"The environment, the atmosphere is gonna be electric, obviously, and we're happy that we're at home and we have them at our back. I kind of wish the ticket prices weren't as crazy as they are," Hart said. "A lot of people who have been waiting for this moment for a very long time, unfortunately, aren't able to get into the building. The cheapest ticket, $7-8,000, that's ridiculous."
After the Knicks took a 2-0 series lead over the Spurs with Friday's 105-104 win at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Tick Pick reported that the get-in price for Games 3 and 4 at MSG reached well into the five figures. As of Sunday, the prices remain incredibly steep, despite over 1,000 tickets still being available for both games:
The last time the Knicks won an NBA championship was in 1973, so New York City has been starving for a title for quite some time. New York lost its most recent Finals appearances in 1999 and 1994, but this year's team has fueled optimism that the drought could be coming to an end.
The Knicks stole home-court advantage from the Spurs with a pair of gritty wins. New York overcame a 14-point second-half deficit to earn a 105-95 victory in Game 1. On Friday, it was San Antonio that made a furious comeback, but it still fell short in front of its home fans.
The Knicks will be hoping to avoid a similar letdown in front of their supporters during their upcoming home games, but it's safe to say that many diehard fans were priced out of attending the Finals at MSG.
