Lane Kiffin Discusses Ed Orgeron's LSU Return, Reveals 'Tremendous Value' Former HC Provides
Ed Orgeron is returning to LSU after five years away from the college football world, and new Tigers head coach Lane Kiffin said he believes Orgeron is the "perfect fit."
"It just seemed like the perfect time to bring him back," Kiffin said, per ESPN's Pete Thamel. "We talked for a number of days about it. We had to figure out exactly what it was. I feel awesome about it."
Orgeron was LSU's head coach from 2016 to 2021, leading the Tigers to a national championship in 2019. He was hired to Kiffin's staff last week as a special assistant to recruiting and defense.
Kiffin said Orgeron will give LSU an edge in recruiting, specifically within the state.
"That's a tremendous value anywhere, let alone the state of Louisiana," Kiffin said.
Orgeron grew up in southern Louisiana, so he knows the state—and all of its football talent—well. Orgeron also brought in plenty of NFL talent during his time at LSU, with Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Ja'Marr Chase being some of the most notable names.
Kiffin is hoping to turn the Tigers back into a national championship contender, and he'll lean on Orgeron to help them get back to the top of the college football world.
