Ed Orgeron Joins Lane Kiffin's LSU Staff, Former HC Won 2019 National Championship
Lane Kiffin is bringing a familiar face back to LSU.
The school announced Wednesday that former head coach Ed Orgeron will join Kiffin's staff as a special assistant to recruiting and defense:
"I'm excited to bring Coach Orgeron back to LSU," Kiffin said in a statement. "He brings us tremendous value with his ability to recruit elite players nationally, but especially the impact he can have for us recruiting the great state of Louisiana. Coach O understands my expectations and commitment to being a championship program. I look forward to seeing him with recruits and his intensity working with our defensive players."
The two previously worked together at Tennessee and USC.
Orgeron, 64, spent six seasons (2016-21) as LSU's head coach, leading the team to a 51-20 record and a national championship in the 2019 season during his tenure.
He said in October that he would consider eventually returning to LSU if asked.
"I'd consider it," he noted on ESPN Radio's Unsportsmanlike. "I love LSU. I've still got my home in Baton Rouge. When I coached with Coach [Les] Miles, [I was] the defensive line coach. I love the Tigers and I'm getting back to coaching, for sure, I'd consider it. No doubt."
Well, he's been asked and he's returning. A fan favorite is back in Baton Rouge.
