Blake Griffin Jabs Shams Charania For Leaking SGA's NBA MVP Award Win in Trending Video

Andrew PetersMay 17, 2026

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was officially named the NBA's Most Valuable Player on Sunday night, but ESPN's Shams Charania reported the news long before it was announced on the NBA on Prime.

Blake Griffin, a studio analyst for Amazon Prime, joked that Charania should have been enjoying his Sunday rather than spoiling the MVP announcement.

"It's Sunday, Shams," Griffin said. "Go to brunch, nerd."

It was reported Saturday that the MVP would be announced on Amazon Prime on Sunday night before Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons, but it was to be expected that Charania and other insiders would report the information before it made it to the air.

That has been the case in previous years and proved true once again this year.

Gilgeous-Alexander won the award for a second consecutive season after another tremendous year with the NBA's top team. The 27-year-old put up 31.1 points, 6.6 assists and 4.3 rebounds per game this year while shooting 55.3 percent from the field and 38.6 percent from deep.

He took home the most coveted individual award over San Antonio Spurs star and Defensive Player of the Year Victor Wembanyama and Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić, a three-time winner of the award.

Gilgeous-Alexander received 83 first-place votes, Jokić received 10 and Wembanyama received five. Detroit Pistons star Cade Cunningham, who was not a finalist, also landed two first-place votes.

Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will face Wembanyama and the Spurs in the Western Conference Finals, starting with Game 1 on Monday as Oklahoma City seeks its second consecutive championship.
