Stephen Curry's Warriors Contract Status Updated by Mike Dunleavy Ahead of Extension Talks

Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry's contract expires after the end of the 2026-27 season.

On Friday, Warriors general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. told reporters the team wants to sign Curry to an extension and have him finish his career in town, per ESPN's Anthony Slater.

"That date will come, but we've always stated that we want Steph to finish his career here, be here as long as he wants," Dunleavy said when asked if the Warriors were offering him an extension.

"So I'm sure those conversations with happen, and you can predict where it'll be going, but yeah, I don't see under any scenario where we don't want to figure out a way to have him finish here."

It's easy to see why the Warriors want to keep Curry past 2026-27. For starters, he is a franchise legend who has led the team to four NBA championships and six Western Conference titles. Curry has also won a pair of NBA MVP awards, led the league in scoring twice and made 12 All-Star teams and 11 All-NBA squads.

Curry also remains productive as he enters his 18th NBA season. The former Davidson star averaged 26.6 points on 46.8 percent shooting, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds last season. Unfortunately, he played just 43 contests largely due to patellofemoral pain syndrome (runner's knee), but he did return before the end of the season.

Golden State ultimately went 24-19 with Curry and 13-26 without him, so his immense value to the team is abundantly clear.

The Warriors have some big decisions to make. Of note, Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler's contracts also expire after the 2026-27 season. However, it's clear the Warriors want Curry to return as they hope to make the playoffs after falling just short in the play-in tournament to the Phoenix Suns this year.
