Myles Turner Reveals Giannis' Habit of Being Late, Bucks Players Skipping Meetings Under Doc Rivers
Myles Turner says his time with the Milwaukee Bucks under former head coach Doc Rivers was marked by a lack of expectation players would show up on-time to meetings or flights.
Turner told New York Liberty star Brenna Stewart about his experience with the Bucks and Giannnis Antetokounmpo in Thursday's episode of their podcast Game Recognize Game with Stewie & Myles.
"Guys were late all the time, guys were showing up to film whenever they wanted to show up, guys were missing meetings," Turner said around the 20:45 mark of the podcast. "It was one of the craziest things I have personally ever experienced. Any other team I've been on, guys got fined. And there was a sense of order, and a sense of understanding."
Turner continued, "We literallyโ if the plane took off at 2:00, we weren't leaving until 4:30... it got to the point where I knew not to show up until an hour after they said the plane was taking off."
When asked which Bucks player was most likely to be late, Turner answered, "Giannis is going to show up whenever he wants, really. I think that kind of just came with the territory.
"And once I saw what was going down, I was like, 'Hey, man, more power to you. They ain't going to fine you, do what you do."
Turner added that it was the first time in his career he had experienced such a policy after 10 seasons with the Indiana Pacers.
"We'll see what Taylor Jenkins does," Turner says.
Rivers stepped down after three seasons as head coach in April after the Bucks posted a 97-103 record and won no playoff series during his tenure. He will be succeeded by former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins.
Jenkins is now set to coach Turner, who left the Pacers last July when he signed a four-year deal with the Bucks. He said last November the Bucks had made his free agency decision "very easy" by offering him $40 million more than the Pacers had.
Antetokounmpo could be departing from Milwaukee ahead of the Jenkins era. After reported trade buzz around Antetokounmpo ahead of the February deadline, ESPN's Shams Charania reported earlier this week the Bucks are "open for business on trade calls" for their superstar.
