Darryn Peterson Compares Himself to SGA in Video, Says He's 'Unguardable' Ahead of 2026 NBA Draft
Ahead of the NBA draft, one of the top prospects compared himself to an MVP and an NBA champion.
Kansas star Darryn Peterson likened his game to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder, saying that he and the Oklahoma City Thunder star are both "unguardable."
Gilgeous-Alexander is one of the best scorers in the league and won both MVP and Finals MVP last year. He's also very likely on his way to another MVP this year. If Peterson can have even a fraction of SGA's career, it should be considered a success.
Peterson is widely considered to be one of the best prospects in this year's draft class, with many having him and BYU star AJ Dybantsa right alongside each other at the top of draft boards.
In the latest mock draft from Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman, Peterson is projected to go second overall to the Utah Jazz. In his full scouting report of Peterson, Wasserman described the young player to another elite scorer, Anthony Edwards.
"I feel like I'm the best. Any team I feel like I'm placed on, I can go in and make an instant impact on both sides of the ball," Peterson told ESPN's Brian Custer. "I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make my team better, and help my team win."
In his only season with the Jayhawks, Peterson put up 20.2 points per game on 43.8 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from deep.
Peterson missed some time at Kansas for various ailments, including cramping. He explained recently that the cramping was the result of creatine, making him overly dehydrated, so that issue is hopefully now in the past.
